Ireland has one of the lowest rates of car ownership in the European Union.

New figures from Eurostat show we had 440 passenger cars for every one thousand inhabitants in 2017 - the 8th lowest figure in the EU.

The European Commission has launched a Citizens' Initiative to find out if the public want a review of low pay for people who work in web-based taxi and food delivery services.

People can log on to the EU Citizens' Initiative web page to register their desire for the Commission to look at strengthening the rights of so-called "uberised" workers.

Grace Bolton of the EU Commission office in Ireland says that new legislation will be considered if the petition gathers over one million signatures across the European Union.
