Irish people are the third biggest users of air transport in the European Union.

New figures from Eurostat show that 43 per cent of us fly when we travel, putting us behind Malta on 63 and Cyprus on 49 per cent.

Grace Bolton, Head of Press for the European Commission in Ireland, says it’s not surprising that the top three countries for air travel are islands.

She also says the figures show that four out of every five journeys in Ireland are made by car.
