Electricity prices in Ireland are now the 4th highest in the European Union.

Only consumers in Germany, Denmark and Belgium pay more.

New figures from Eurostat show that Irish people pay 0.24 euro per kilowatt hour just behind Germany at 0.3 euro per kilowatt hour.

Tim Hayes of the European Commission office in Ireland says the low production of electricity here from renewable sources is contributing to high costs.
