Almost 40 per cent of disabled people living in Ireland are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, the fifth worst figure in Europe.

Only disabled people in the eastern European countries of Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania are more likely to live in poverty or exclusion.

In 2019, 28.4% of the EU population aged 16 or over with a disability was at risk of poverty or social exclusion, compared with 37.8% in Ireland.

Tim Hayes of the European Commission says the figures for Ireland are disappointing.
