The European Consumer Centre is repeating a previous advisory for people to think twice when purchasing goods online from a Dot ie site.

It says complaints have increased from consumers who bought from Irish-flagged websites which in fact are based outside the country.

The Centre says Dot ie websites based outside the European Union usually contain hidden costs and are not protected by EU law.

Cyril Sullivan of ECC Ireland says some advance homework can save consumers unnecessary charges and difficulties.
