Today (Tuesday) is the deadline for students of computer coding aged 15-19 to vote on three societal challenges which can be tackled by developing an app.

The three options are, inclusiveness for digital communities, flood tracking along the river Shannon and addressing cyber bullying on social media.

Participating students in the EU Hackathon competition will have 24 hours next week to develop an app to tackle the chosen topic which can be viewed at codeweek.eu slash hackathons slash Ireland, with the winning team chosen to represent Ireland in the European final next October.

Tim Hayes of the EU Commission says this is a wonderful opportunity for young computer buffs to develop a life-changing digital app.
