There were 2.4 million non-fatal work accidents across Europe in 2018 according to new figures just released.

The statistics show that affected workers were absent from work for four days or more.

The rate of fatal Irish accidents was 2.1 per 100,000 workers, just below the European average of 2.2.

Tim Hayes of the European Commission says Ireland has some way to go to catch up with the Netherlands where the rate of workplace accidents is 0.87 per 100,000 employees.
