Ireland is expected to experience one of the largest population increases in the whole of Europe by 2050.

New figures from Eurostat show that the number of people living here is expected to grow by 20 per cent over the next 30 years.

The average age of the Irish population will increase from 45 to 49.1 years by 2050.

Tim Hayes of the European Commission in Ireland says the population of Dublin is expected to expand by 250,000 during the same period.
